Following the work place revolution that the pandemic brought us, now more than ever businesses are exploring ways to make hybrid work in order to offer their employees greater flexibility. It's been proven that remote work productivity can be greater that when in the office. However, either you are working from home or the coffee shop around the corner, discipline and routine are paramount for being effective. At Priority Management, we love all things PRODUCTIVITY, so here are a few quick tips:
Set Realistic Goals for the Following Day
Before you finish your work day, take some time to review the following day and block some time in your calendar for completing a specific task. While you should set challenging goals, they should also be attainable for the time that you have. Increase your chances of successfully accomplishing a big goal by breaking it down into small.
Designate a Home Workspace - with Plants!
You cannot expect great results if you have a poor work environment. Working from your sofa is not an ideal work space. When you designate an official home workspace, it will help to maintain the boundaries between work and home life. Also, have some plants around you! Yes, plants. A UK study found bringing plants into the workplace increased productivity by 15%.
Limit Distractions
If someone actually counted the number of times you get interrupted each day, you might be surprised at how high that number is. Learning to manage interruptions and avoiding them as much as possible can improve your performance tremendously. We all know how intimidating it can be to say "NO" when a colleague, especially your Manager interrupts you. Instead of just saying "no", follow it with a "not now, I will do it for you in 1 hour". That way you manage expectations as well as interruptions.
Split your Location
Maybe sitting at the same desk everyday is not your cup of tea. Why not go to the coffee shop in the morning and work there for a few hours. It's a great way to get some steps first thing and around lunch time you can make a move and work from the comfort of your home until clocking off.
Take breaks, Outdoors
Working from home can sometimes lead to a sedentary lifestyle. This sedentary lifestyle can lead us to lose focus. While you have goals to be met, remember to take frequent breaks. When we say breaks, it doesn’t mean to lie on the couch and turn on the television. Go out for a 10 minute walk to help wake up your body, to look at something else instead of your computer screen all day and to clear your mind for a bit. This should help your body and mind feel refreshed to tackle the next mini goal.
